Preseason Preview: Champ Page

Comments
Champ Page has been an integral part of the Buckeyes' 4x400-meter relay team in his first two seasons with the Buckeyes. The Marlboro, Md., native helped the Scarlet and Gray to the 2014 Big Ten indoor title in the 4x4 and Second Team All-America honors. Individually, he has enjoyed success in the 400-meter dash, finishing fourth at the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championships and seventh at the conference indoor meet in 2013.After sitting out the 2014 outdoor season due to injury, Page is ready to make his return to the track next month. He recently sat down to discuss the upcoming season and what it takes to be successful in his events. On sustaining Ohio State's traditional success in the 4x400-meter relay"Everyone believes and knows that they will do their part to the best of their abilities. It's a new team this year but for the most part we all feel the chemistry that will contribute to our success. No matter how the meet has gone, we are going to do what we're supposed to do in the 4x4."On success in the 400-meter dash"The 400 is a tricky event because you need 100-meter speed and 800-meter strength. You have to be able to sustain that top speed for a long time. What I have learned about the 400 is that it's not always about who is the fastest, but who can slow down the least. After working with the coaching staff recently I am confident in my speed and strength progression."On the younger additions to the team"We have a lot of talent and we can do great things this year. The difference this season is we have talent with people who have a mindset on winning. We are definitely going to do well."On personal expectations"I want All-American status. I think if I focus on the status, the times are going to follow."
